Chris Bowling, KPA-CTP is the owner and lead Trainer at Lost Mountain Dog Training, LLC. I can't remember a time when a dog wasn't involved in our life. My love affair with dogs began while growing up overseas where dogs are allowed to go anywhere with you. Our dog was always there even if it meant my brother and I were pushed to the floor of our parents car while our Boxer (Dutchess) was spread out across the backseat. (This was long before seat belts were mandatory), and I've loved being around dogs ever since. We've always been able to take our dogs with us on our travels because they were always well behaved. All dogs are great dogs, its just that some get to "greatness" status a little faster than others, and I can help get your dog to that level. Sometimes its not easy, but anything worthwhile can be accomplished with a little time, effort and a lot of patience.
I'm a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy for Professional Dog Training and Behavior and a Certified Training Partner; a current member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and I'm Certified in Pet First Aid and CPR. I am part of the Adopt A Golden Atlanta group which performs home checks in the West Cobb / East Paulding areas. This ensures the Golden's are placed into well cared for and loving homes.
I also work with dogs from surrounding rescue organizations by evaluating those displaying behavioral, aggression and fear issues, and work to help these potential family members to change their unwanted behaviors. I'm also a volunteer with the Cobb County Animal Control Center located in West Cobb County when time permits. When working with dogs on aggression or fear issues, I use positive reinforcement techniques to address these behavior issues. I'm also trained using the Behavior Adjustment Training Program (also called "BAT"). This program allows the dog to work on its behavior at a comfort level via peaceful means. I will work with any breed of dog whether it's for obedience training or dealing with an unwanted behavior, aggression or fear, is shy, needs confidence building, getting your dog prepared for therapy work, or just wanting your dog to behave nicely around your home.
The methods of training your best friend continue to change and keeping oneself educated on these changes is a must! I believe its important to stay current on training and aggression management techniques, so I make sure to attend a couple of seminars every year.
There are many things that always seem to need addressing with dogs: how to cope being around other dogs, learning social skills, getting use to a new home environment or just being around people, children or new babies. It’s very fulfilling to be able to work with an owner and their dog, come up with a plan, and see that plan to fruition. A Happy Dog is a Loving Dog!
Coming from a family of healthcare professionals, I think being able to take a well trained dog into a hospital type environment or retirement community to put a smile on someone’s face or offer comfort to others says it all. If you are interested in having your dog become a part of a Therapy Dog Team, please give us a call. Seeing a child smile when a dog walks into their hospital room, or bringing comfort to a person in a long term hospital situation is a blessing. This is a dog that everyone loves and loves to be around!
Our Golden Retriever, Lady Charlotte, shown in the picture above was adopted from Adopt a Golden Atlanta. A link to the Adopt a Golden website is located on our homepage...please consider adopting your next pet.
